Last Friday, Hillary Clinton stayed silent about special counsel Robert Mueller’s indictment of 13 Russians for their intrusion into the 2016 election, but Nick Merrill, her spokesman used the news as an opportunity to call President Donald Trump’s lack of response to the Russian threat “un-American.”

“Today’s revelations confirm what we’ve long known,” Nick Merrill, Clinton’s spokesman, tweeted on Friday afternoon. He went forward to say “Time will tell us more, but Russia went to great lengths to undermine our democracy, & the President won’t protect us. No matter your politics, it’s un-American. We have an adversary that is laughing at us, who will act again.”

Clinton particularly, and most of her 2016 campaign team, declined to comment on the indictments after they landed on Friday. The former secretary of state did tweet multiple times in the afternoon, but she kept her commentary to the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

Mueller’s indictment detailed how the Russians and three entities worked starting as early as 2014 to influence the presidential election, aiming to swing it against Clinton and toward Trump with both online and in-person activity.

While multiple senior government officials have in recent weeks warned that Russia remains a threat to future elections, Trump himself on Friday tweeted: “Russia started their anti-US campaign in 2014, long before I announced that I would run for President. The results of the election were not impacted. The Trump campaign did nothing wrong — no collusion!”
